The nasal septum is the tissue that separates the right and left nasal cavities. |Mucous membrane| lines the cavities and covers the |septum|. Two narrow cavities, called olfactory clefts, lie on each side of the nasal septum at the very top of the |nose|. The olfactory membranes lie in the olfactory clefts.
